Stara Planina

Stara planina is the longest (550 km), the biggest of all mountains. It extends throughout the entire length of the country- from the Bulgarian border of Serbia to the Black Sea coast. The highest peak – Mount Botev (2376 meters).
The Bulgarian rivers of greater importance, which flow from the mountain to the north and into the sea via the Danube River are: Lom, Ogosta, Yantra, Russenski Lom and Kamchiya. To the south and into the White sea flow the rivers Stryama, Stara Reka, Tundzha and Mochuritsa.
The region of Central Stara planina lies at a cross-road of the tourist routes leading to Bulgaria's major natural and cultural attractions, as well as to the mountain and sea-side resorts. It includes the towns of Tryavna, Dryanovo, Gabrovo, Sevlievo, Apriltsi, Troyan, Teteven and Lovech.
Mild-continental climate, mountain air, mineral springs and varied landscape give the opportunities for active and healthy recreation and tourism. The great wealth of the region is Central Balkan National Park and “Balgarka” Natural Park. Great diversity of natural resources, museums, exhibitions, churches, monasteries and the other sights of interest give a full idea of the region's cultural and historical heritage, its traditional arts and folklore.
The winter here is fairy. The snow softly covers woods, glades, peaks. It’s getting quiet, as if you are in different world – clean and white.
