Pamporovo
Pamporovo, the pearl of the Bulgarian mountain resorts, is situated in the heart of the Rhodopes, some 260 km away from the capital Sofia, 85 km to the south of Plovdiv and 15 km from Smolyan. It is located at 1650 meters above sea level at the foot of the peak Snezhanka (1926m).
From the peak, where a 156 m broadcasting tower is erected, several ski runs slope down to the resort and the Smolyan lakes. The resort and the ski runs are flanked by age-old fir an tree, which makes the resort very beautiful. The total length of the ski runs is 18 km. The chair lifts and ski tows servicing the ski runs have a capacity of 7,000 persons per hour.
The climate is favourable for tourism, the average temperature being 8°C. The snow cover stays on over 150 per year and the sunny days are approximately 270. Near by Pamporovo is located resort villages Stoykite (5 km), ethnographical museum Shiroka laka (10 km), Progled (3 km), Momchilovtsi (17 km), which are suitable for skiing and village tourism. 10 km north of the resort is located the town of Chepelare.
To the south you can see Smolyan ledge and Smolyan lakes and in the distance Greece part of Rodopi Mountains. To the west are located Mount Gloyam Perelik, village of Stoykite, village of Gela, as well as panorama of Rila and Pirin Mountains. To the North you can see Stara planina Mountain, to the East – Rozhen, the dome of Rozhen National astronomical observatory and East Rodopi.
If you love skiing and winter sports in general, Pamporovo is the place where you can spend unforgettable moments on the snow tracks.
The climate is mild and with great Mediterranean influence. The average annual temperature is 8.5º C, while the snow cover is 140-150 cm. The altitude of the resort is 1.650 m, the highest peak Snezhanka is 1.926 m.
